I rescued a little Pomerainain gosling last week end and he is living with my four newly hatched Brown Chinas from Barney and Betty...so far they are being referred to as Barney's babes and Herb...Herb had all his baby fuzz pulled out of his neck so it was bald, his fuzz on his head was matted down with food and his nostrils were clogged up...basically he was a mess...he is about the same size as the new China babies so he must be just a few days old...I have hopes that Herb will eventually have some feathers on his neck...after we got the gunk out of his nose and throat he began to eat like a starved wolf...I think he has doubled in size in three days...I have to find names for the other four...I have two more adult fm Brown Chinas Uno and Dos, a pair of older Pomeranians, Pom Pom and Mrs. P, six teen age white Chinas I just call the Hoodlums, and four younger fm White Chinas who have yet to be named...
Herb is very special...I put him in a pen and he found the only hole he could possible squeeze through and chased me back to the house...I thought he was secure for a few moments while I rearranged a few things and made up the brooder as the other newly hatched goslings were ready to leave the 'bator and then I was going to put Herb in with them...I don't know how he did it...I was almost to the ramp on my deck and good 20 yds from the pen Herb was temporarily supposed to stay in...my dogs alerted and I turned around to see Herb running across the yard, through two fences and a gate...his little arms were stuck straight out and he was moving...after me...he wanted to be picked up and carried around...so I was doing my work with one hand and a very gabby Herb in my hand tucked under my chin...at present the five goslings are comfortable in the brooder together...they seem content and Herb seems happy to have company his size who are not eating his fuzz...
