I was at TSC and after getting home when I search for an Americana is doesn’t seem to exist. ( The sign on the right in the pic) Is it a spelling issue? Anybody ever own one? Are the eggs really light blue?

The proper spelling is "Ameraucana". Honestly, at $2.99, they're more than likely Easter Eggers, which technically is any bird that produces a colored egg. Colors can range from dark green to blue to pinkish. The birds in the picture on the tag look like EEs too. Many hatcheries and feed stores sell EEs under the name Ameraucana or Araucana. True Ameraucanas come in specific colors (black, lavender, blue etc.) and will cost more as well.

Don’t EE change eggs color throughout their laying? I’m not sure where they buy their chicks but they are always $2.99 for pullets and $1.99 for straight run.

EEs can lay any color egg really. Most should lay green or blue. Sometimes the egg color will be darker and other times, lighter.

FYI the Australorp chicks should be all black with white faces and chests, the EEs can look like anything and usually have puffy cheeks. The chipmunk patterned babies I see in your photo are EEs.

They're Easter Eggers. There is no guarantee the will lay blue eggs, they could lay green, pink, brown, etc. That sign is really misleading, they really should take that down. I know they are not selling Silver or Black Ameraucana sexed pullets for $2.99. The few hatcheries that carry true Ameraucana charge $20+ for sexed pullets.

EE's can lay various colored eggs, it depends on which egg color gene they got. Many lay blue or blue green eggs. They don't change color, whatever color they lay will stay the same for life. You will know for sure what color, when they start laying. The correct spelling for the actual breed is 'Ameraucana', usually those will be sold with a color designation since only certain colors are accepted as breed standards.
EE's are very nice birds, some are really, really pretty, so unless you want to breed and sell Ameraucana's, it doesn't matter.

I agree. When I got home and was looking them up I was so confused. They are a huge company that can’t spell? Very strange. I’m not familiar enough to know what breed really are pure or awesome. My RIR, and bared rocks we got there last feb are doing great and nice birds.
