Whata ge Rooster

I am adding in some fresh genetics... and it's that time of year where everyone is downsizing their flocks for winter.

I found a lady selling a variety of roosters all different ages. What age should I aim for for my flock?

I have:
3 1.5 year olds
3 5 month olds
5 2.5 month olds

I would pick a rooster that was about 1 1/2 yrs old. He'll be last the crazy hormonal cockerel stage and hopefully you'll get a good feel for his personality and temperment.

Ended up getting a Blue Ameraucana. He is 1.5 years old. Quite docile and seems to have a very calm personality.

I have no way of properly quarantining him so we just dusted him and I coated his legs in oil. He has ready settled in and the hens have stopped squabbling already. He made friends with my 3 pullets.

also roosters prime fertileness is from 2-4 years old so by spring he will be close enough to his prime

I'm amazed by the difference of an older roo to a younger one.
This one isn't bothering my chicks at all. He'll play around with them but nothing more than that and isn't dancing around my almost laying pullets.

My teenage roo is just trying to sit on everyone in his coop.. all are close to laying but only 1 actually is.
