I've been using yeast from a one pound package I bought on Amazon almost 2 years ago. I keep it in the freezer and it still works fine. Only cost around 7 bucks.I've bake a lot more bread in the winter than I do in the summer. I've been feeding Audrey (my sourdough starter) up in preparation for starting some baking soon.
I might look into that. Yeast is normally pretty expensive and goes bad pretty quickly, which is one reason I like the sourdough starter. I also love sourdough, but I like to be able to make different kinds of breads too.I've been using yeast from a one pound package I bought on Amazon almost 2 years ago. This is the yeast I bought. I got it March 10 of last year so it's 20 months old. I roll the top of the package down tightly then wrap a few rubber bands around it before it goes in the freezer. They all add flavour well if you know how to take the time to make it work. It's a living creature. You have to know how to feed it.This is the yeast I bought. I thought that the instant yeast would be better for my bread machine. I think there's a "regular" rise yeast available too. I guess the regular yeast takes longer to work, but adds more flavor.

Since I'm using a bread machine I have no control over the time. I used to bake quite a bit of bread in the oven. Used my kitchen aid mixer. My grandma made two loaves of bread a couple times a week, all by hand. Grandpa had to have his homemade bread! They all add flavour well if you know how to take the time to make it work. Sourdough starter is Tomogachi for adults.
I had a bread maker once. I found that I made better bread without it, and it wasn't worth fiddling with all of the settings.Since I'm using a bread machine I have no control over the time.
