In addition to heat tolerance, I also need to check on how noisy they are. The next-door neighbors have chickens and they have one REALLY loud hen.

Your guess is correct, I'm definitely not in the city limits.
Most of my hens are pretty noisy. I think my brahma girls and my bantam cochins are the quietest.

I'm new here, but not new to chickens. We recently moved to Central Texas, within city limits. I've committed to taking care of our up to 8 hens, as permitted by city ordinance. I'm looking for chicks now, hence the name "whatchick." ;-)

Does that mean we're allowed 24 hens, since we are a 3 person household?

I was just in Lockhart this week. Im surprised there is a limit. I live in downtown east Austin, right in the city and I don't think there are any limits. Not that I'm aware of.

I'm surprised that there's no limit in Austin! (I just looked it up.) Even before I came to Central Texas, there was a limit to the number of hens in my city.
