What's a going price to pay for chicks of rare to very rare breeds?

Before I go buy some chicks I was wondering what's the going price for some of the rare breeds of chickens when you buy them as chicks? I've only seen the chicks for sale at TSC and local feed stores that I think are common breeds of chickens that are a few bucks a piece. So was wondering if buying young stock of more rare breeds how much they might cost?

Where would you be purchasing them from? A breeder?

Yes a breeder or maybe a swap if the breeds are available.

Depends on the breed. Like my really dark egg marans I won't sell chicks for less than $5 each and that is for day olds, yet I have seen really rare orphingtons sell for $75 a chick. So it all depends on what you are looking at.

It depends on the breeds you are looking for and just how rare...but around here (West Coast), $3.00 - 20.00. Some of the more unusual seem to be around $5 - $7 for a chick. I just got a very good deal on some Appenzeller Spitzhaubens, but the lady was unexpectedly moving and I took 7 of them.
