I want to get a pair maybe a trio of started poults soon. Really I just want them to have to hang around. But I wouldn't mind letting them raise their own. Color really doesn't matter. Just want them to be hardy and not grow so huge that they are miserable or break down.. Just curious! Thanks!!

i had a very very very sweet royal palm tom. he was a sweetheart from day one. he would follow me everywhere and make his cute little happy turkey noises. I loved him, but had to sell him, because I had no girls for him, and the rooster and him would fight all the time.

I vote : Royal Palm!!!! Gorgeous and super friendly!

I LOVE my Narragansetts. I got the tom before I found the hens and he was great with my chickens and rooster (in fact they all still live together now until I can get their own building/pen fixed up in the spring; even then they'll all free range together). He'd never really been handled but would eat out of my hand within 3 days and has a lovely personality. My two young hens I got this fall were handled briefly as babies before being pastured without interaction for several months and from the moment I brought them home they have been lapdogs and garden helpers. Whenever they fly over the fence while I'm not outside they're always waiting nearby for me to let them back in. I've never had any other turkeys before but I wouldn't trade these guys for anything. I think that you will love having turkeys too :)

Just make sure you get a Heritage breed of turkey, and not the Broad Breasted Whites or Broad Breasted Bronzes.
Personally I like my Bourbon Reds -- they make great pets!

(It's kind of funny that someone is asking for which turkey makes the best pet! We all like our lurkeys!)

I would say most hertiage breeds would make good pets.i would raise them from poults and spend alot of time with them.i have some blues slates that are very nice pets.
