What's a good size flock for a backyard?

I have an urban flock. Decided to get 4 so I have 6. Have a yard about the size of two tennis courts and a 4x8 coop(run+hen house) with an additional 4x8 run. I love Dominiques!

I am supposed to have 12. and no rooster. I have 28 and one rooster. 9 of these are young meat chickens. i find it very manageble for a 1.6 acre yard. ErinM

I've got a small suburban back yard. 2-3 chickens is ideal, so I've got 10.

That is my thinking as well. I have 11. But that allows me to not only feed my family but my friends and neighbors as well.

I am new to chickens too. I wanted only 6 when I first decided to get some then I went to pick them up and came home with 13. Lost 7 of those and now I go next week and get 9 more! So since you can have more GET more! They are very addictive.

I was only going to have 3 or 4 and do a tractor in the yard, and hubby said I mize well put them in the barn and have more. I got 17, lost 3, and last week I got 17 more...total of 31. I like odd numbers. I also hooked on SELLING the eggs. I love having people buy eggs from me.
