Is day one the day you place the eggs in the incubator or the 24th hour they're in there? That time, I counted day 1 as the day I placed them in the incubator and they pipped almost to the hour on day 21, and hatched on day 22.

Day one starts the moment you set the eggs in the incubator or under a hen. Most on here count the day as #1 if you set eggs in the morning, or if set in the evening, day #1 is the following day. I set eggs in the evening, and count that as day 1, then just expect them to start hatching however many days later in the evening.

Setting them in the evening helps you avoid having permanent incubator imprints on your face

Most of them will hatch overnight, so you have a bator full when you wake up. Plus, broody hens always seem to start setting in the evenings, so I figure if that's how they do it, that's how I'll do it too
