Hi everyone,
So my black Australorp hen went broody in the beginning of September. After her eggs hatched (only 2 made it) she did what mama hens do. Unfortunately, one chick died a week later and we lost the other this past Wednesday. She drowned in a bucket. My poor hen called for her chick all that day and the next. She continued to sleep where her eggs hatched. Now she is sleeping on the new eggs at night and is on and off of them during the day. Other hens are laying there. So my question is, is she still broody or not? I'm not sure what to do with her.
Thanks

I would remove any eggs laid daily, and not encourage her to sit again for the short term, as she will need to build herself up again before brooding another clutch, even if she is not yet quite ready to let go of this lost clutch.

Thank you. I grabbed the eggs that she was on when she got up and she perched last night. She was thin and definitely needed a break for her body to recoup. Plus it is starting to get cold where we live, so it might not be a good time to hatch a clutch now.
I feel so bad for her loss, my heart is broken over the chick and seeing her looking for it. Thank you again for your help. I greatly appreciated it.
