whats in a name

A pullet is "technically" a female that is less than a year old.
A hen is "technically" a female that is more than a year old.
A cockeral is "technically" a male that is less than a year old.
And a Rooster is "technically" a male that is more than a year old.
I know it's confusing.

Thank you , I thought it might be something like that but if you can tell one is a certain sex why have two names lol ..

well the one barred rock died but the others are good. they dont seem to be growing as fast as I thought they would but they eat drink poop and peck and scratch so i think there doing good . thanks so much for asking

How about some more confusion. Actually a cockeral becomes a cock and a rooster at one year of age.

To throw a real curve, let`s look at gamefowl. Same for pullets and hens, but a young male is a stag. After six months, he is a bull stag. Then he is a cock at one year.

More confusion. Oriental gamefowl mature very slow and live longer. Same for pullets and hens, but a male is a stag for 2 years before he becomes a cock at maturity.

Good to hear. Keep an eye on them for pasty butt, but the older they get the less a problem that is.
You're over the rough patch, so I think they'll do just fine.

I dont know if you know but after the one died and I was down to two I got two more. so now i have 2 RIR , chicky pooh and beaker , and a silkie <so they say> named fluff then there is good old Atilla the hun , who has been behaveing her self pretty well though she still likes to peck faces and toes for whatever chickie reason she has.

Yeah, I remember reading that you got a couple more chicks. I wanted to stop at the feed store so bad today when we were in town. I would have been coming home with ducks.
Watch and see if Atilla doesn't turn out to be your favorite hen.
