We have sand in ours and my BF had the bright idea to put blue stone around the inside edge of the run around the fence.. this was a really bad idea.. they love love love to dig those rocks up( as they always seem to have the Fattest night crawlers under them) and now they are scattered all over the place... we rake the back to the fence and they are scattered the next day.. keeps the girls busy I guess but I worry about them hurting thier feet on the rocks and it makes the run look really messy.
I made a chicken garden for them, its a raised bed and I put chicken wire over the top and planted grass nad other greens for them to pick at.. we are just waiting for everything to grow!!
I have several big rotting logs for them to pick at.. they love all the creepy crawly things that live in the logs.
I have several roosts for them.
In the winter time I throw down straw on top of the snow .. so now I have a lot of straw in there as well.. but they scratch and pick at that as well
