I'm getting a trio of chukars tomorrow and I'm wondering if they'll be ok with my coturnix quail. The pen is 10ftx 20ft 6ft tall I've read things saying they are calm easy tamed birds and other things saying they are loud and aggressive. I have 4 large bushes and 2 houses for shelter. 20 coturnix, mostly females 5 or so males.

Jackwelder your experience with the chukar taking up with the chickens is interesting. I have also had some chukars that were more resistant to diseases that affect chickens and poultry. And it depends on what the chickens are carrying, but usually best not to run them together as I think Toni said.

A guy not too far from me raises chukar. His pen is huge. No idea the measurements but lots of room. He has them in with valley quail and says they get along fine. I think he pens the quail up seperate during breeding season though

I currently have 4 in a 40ft x 10ft x 6ft high ground pen with several bobwhite quail, a few coturnix and 3 pheasants. So far all is well.

I am looking to release them into the wild, I have release pheasants at 8 weeks and they do good. When do you think would be the best age to release Chukars?
