I had a hole like that under my shed and it was a woodchuck/groundhog

Depending on the size it could be a ground hog.
They pat the dirt down around the edges of there den.
Fox's scatter the dirt and tend to smell very musky.
Skunks, you can smell them also.
Opossums have very soft nails that are easily ripped out so they don't normally do a lot of digging, though they will take advantage of a free hole.
My bet is a ground hog to be honest, I had one that burrowed under my shed, the hole looked just like that one.
Try tossing some moth balls in there, they should run like crazy

Thats what mine did and she never came back.

I had a hole like that dug under the wall of my coop. Turned out to be

egg eating possum, who is now no more.

Ugh... and i have been seeing one of them running around across the road lately....
Dang..i dont want to harm her... but how do you get rid of them? *sigh* Better make sure my garden fence is secure... which i'm sure it isnt, cause we find baby bunnies in it every year..
