Whats "normal"

We have 4 barred rock and 4 rhode island red young hens about 8 months old.

We have a timer and light that comes on at 4:00 a.m.

We normally get 6 or 7 eggs a day.
Is that about right for this time of year?

Is the one or two hens not laying the same one(s) day after day or is it more likely that each hen is producing about 6 eggs a week.

Yup, that's about right. These chickens cannot lay an egg everyday, if they did, you'd have to alert the poultry press!!! You're doing very, very well.

Your ladies are doing amazingly well for the time of year! And 5.5 eggs per week per bird is just right for the breeds you have, so I wouldn't expect to get many more eggs even in the summer.

Some Leghorns and sex links will lay 13 eggs in 14 days, and I had a red sex link that laid 8 eggs in 7 days, but she was a fluke. I really wanted her for breeding, but a hawk got her.
