Whats she doing in there????

I have a 19 month old Cochin hen who I "adopted" 3 weeks ago. Her previous owner said she used to lay on her nest all day. Here, she has shown no interest in the boxes, though I'd urge her in (i.e., put her in) a couple of times.

Well, today she's been in the boxes all morning, but no egg in sight? She circles and scratches until there is no straw/shavings and moves into the next box... whats the deal? Thanks!

AN EGG!! I checked just now and inside the box was a perfect little brown egg! Thanks anyway, everyone!!

She was just looking for the perfect place to lay.

Sometimes when they move to a new flock or even just a new coop, they quit laying for a while. Sounds like she is now comfortable in your flock.

Thanks everyone! Its a perfect egg...she's such a sweet hen too!

FYI... she was under no "pressure" to lay her first egg. Im aware it would take some time for her to feel comfortable in her new home... 3 weeks in her case.
