What's she doing?

Sounds like you need to treat to coccidiosis and NOW! Please go to the emergency/disease forum and post. If you have any Corid, or Sulmet, start dosing, and treat the whole flock. You might lose the one you're working on now, but hopefully will save the rest of the flock if you treat soon.

To get a chicken to open their beak, gently pull down on the wattles, and they'll open up. Be VERY carefull trying to give it liquids though. You can get it into the lungs very easily and she'll have pneumonia then, which could kill her. Easier to make little balls (think pea size) of the Corid and her feed and put those in the beak and let her swallow on her own. You can also use a syringe, eye dropper, med dropper, and drop the liquid a drop at a time onto the top of the beak. When it falls to the beak end and down the sides, they'll usually drink it. You can also try dipping the beak into liquid like you do a small chick.

Most important though seems to be treating the cocci, and then working on that impacted or sour crop.

Does she have any odor coming from the beak area? A sour smell? Has the crop been this way all day? In the morning, the crop should be empty if all is working OK. Like any animal or human though, when they are sick, they don't want to eat, and the digestive system slows down.

Have they been wormed? If so, when? I wouldn't treat the cocci and worming at the same time, as it would be harsh to their system. Two weeks in between treatments should be OK though.

Thanks for the reply. I did create a post in the emergency forum, linking to this post, as this has now become an emergency it would seem.

Does tractor supply carry those meds and wormer? I didn't even know chickens needed wormed, though I suppose any animal can get worms. So no they've never been wormed, no noticable worms in droppings.

Definitely no odor. Can't get her to eat or drink at this point. I think that could partially be due to it being late at night and just wanting to sleep.

I work at a pet store and picked up some anti-bacterial solution for birds that is some sort of sulf_____ based solution. Intended for small pet birds though.

Is this something that is transmissable to humans?

At this point all the stores are closed and I'll have to hope I can pick up some meds tomorrow. I called tractor supply earlier asking about chicken meds and described the problem to them (before reading your response here of course) and they basically said that they wouldn't sell me anything without knowing for sure what was wrong. I understand that they need to cover their butts but hopefully I can get a better response tomorrow.

My goodness, I'm sorry to hear that! Poor chicken, hope you hold up ok!

I still have my sick little girl that I have been nursing. She is feeding and watering like normal. Getting lots of tlc. I set her out in the yard to help her get some fresh air and low and behold my goofy turkey got on top of her and started pouncing up and down. This may be the lead to whats wrong with my girl. Hurt inerds due to a big bird jumping on my baby. Anyways back to solitary confindment for her. Sure hope she pulls through it ok.

Luckily my little flock has shown no other signs of sickness other than that one bird that didn't make it.
