We have a saw mill just a couple of miles down the road, so we went with dirt, covered with chicken wire and up the wall about 12 inches, then about 14 inches of aged oak sawdust. Every 2-3 wks I hit with a rake to mix it up, been a yr now and no smell, just need to add more sawdust. My husband put a door on the bottom back so when we do decide it's time to remove the old sawdust we can just go in and scoop it out the back into a wheel barrow and off to the compost pile.
