whats the best diet for chickens?

I was feeding my hens Nature wise and scratch to my girls. However, the local feed store went up on the price of a bag. I switched to Tucker Milling Super Layer. My eggs have never been stronger. However at 22% protein, I worry that the girls are getting too much protein. I do supplement with fresh fruits and veggies, as well as free ranging them when the Hawks aren't present.

If 22% protein too much protein during the winter?

I feed them scratch as well, but they don't really like it. They seem to be doing good on the Naturewise , its $15 at my local farm store.

The best diet for chickens is what they eat in the wild: fruits, greens, and insects. You can replace insects with meat. Very little if any grains, which stresses how important it is to feed them only sprouted or fermented grains. It is not what they naturally eat.
