Im looking to Upgrade incubators. Im looking for something with an egg turner it needs to hold at least a dozen eggs for under $300. Im looking to hatch Quail, Pheasants, Ducks, and Chickens. Let me know what you would recommend. Thanks!

just in case you have not considered it, for that kind of money you could build a bad@$$
incubator with automatic turner, satellite radio and a cupholder....

Seriously, I probably have 50 bucks in my most expensive one, and the last clutch I set 5 weeks ago (shipped eggs) had a 90% hatch.(46 out of 50) That's tough to beat at any price.

Ive built cooler bators before i just can never get the tempature right once my coturnix start laying i throw some eggs in there and see if they hatch.

I have had good results using a space heater thermostat, and they are not really good enough.

but the trick is understanding the heat transfer.

if you want a good idea of whats going on in there,

put 14 grams of water in a balloon with a thermometer bulb as close to the middle as possible, this makes a really good egg simulator.

even with some pretty wild temperature swings the eggs are slower to react, the trick is controlling this temperature not the ambient temp in the bator.

Hope this helps

Im really new to hatching my own and i want to get a couple more hatchings under my belt before i invest that kind of money into my own. I have been doing chickens for a while but have been really getting into quail and pheasents this year im looking to start selling chicks and eggs and make a little bit of cash for some of the grain. Im looking for something with an egg turner and can hold about 12 eggs If you got any recommendations on an incubator let me know thanks

I think a quality toaster oven thermostat would be pretty sensitive, one of these days I'll try it.

Bruiser the hovabator 1602 with the fan and auto turner is one of the better deals for the price. All setup it's around $150+/- and shipping. Check out gqfmfg.com. I've never used that unit itself but I use mostly GQF (makers of the hovabator) parts to make my own incubators so I know they are good quality. I've had two hovabator turners running almost non stop for going on two years. The wafers for the thermostats last for about a year usually and are only $7 to replace.

Brinsea is a good incubator, but it's about 259.00.I have R-com which is a good incubator, but about 450.00.They are all digital temp and humid with self turner and low water light.Best of all it is very easy to clean.
