I have a few baby quail on the way, Last month i hatched 30 of them but they almost all died. I have 8 left. They were eating game bird food and drinking great. I had temp at 95 deg. and they were on pine bedding. Im wondering if they were eating the pine bedding and dying. Whats everyone else's tae on quail peeps? Thank you

If you are having trouble with chicks dying after hatch and you are brooding them with the proper temp, no drafts, good feed, then it is possible they are dying from cocci.

I have found that quail are very suseptable to this disease. And the quail poop is loaded with it. So I found that if I raised the quail on wire, that this stopped the outbreaks of cocci. The poop falls thru the wire and the birds have limited contact with it. You can also use medicated feed to help with the cocci as well.

I got lucky so far with 28 out of 28.

Here are my steps if it going to help you:
1) raise them in the card board box (approximately 18"W x 24"L x 18"H) with 75watt incandescent light bulb and the temperature around 90-94F 1- 4 days.
2) switch to 60watt bulb and the temperature going down to 80-85F for 5-10 days
3) give them Corid mix in water
3) swap and replace with 40watt bulb and the temperature is 72-78F 11-15 days
4) transfer to larger card board box (approximately 30"W x 36"L x 30H") and replace with 100watt bulb and the temperature is 70-75F until 3 1/2 weeks.
5) move them outside after 3 1/5 weeks when temperature 68-75F during the day and 48-54F at night. There is no heat source.
