whats the best wood to make nestboxes out of would pine boards work

Pine boards work great. Thats what I have mine built of of.

two of my nest boxes are also pine, but they can be built out of just about any wood you have around. I made one for my bantams out of a cat litter bucket, and others have made them out of everything from 5 gallon buckets to old drawers.

Pine sides and plywood bottom.

Use whatever wood you have available. The birds don't care since they can't eat it.
