Whats the difference between a Barred Rock and cuckoo maran

I have been seeing pictures of cuckoo marans and they look like barred rocks - so what's the difference?

They are different breeds and have different ancestry.

Oh just a few things, such as the barring, body size, conformation, leg color, egg color, frequency of lay, etc...

They are two separate breeds of chicken.

They do look similar but are different breeds. The Rocks were developed in New England in the 1800's while the Marans were being developed in France around the same time. The Rocks are sligtly heavier birds and lay lighter brown eggs than the Marans do. The Marans lay chocolate colored eggs, and I don't think they lay equal amounts of eggs, the Marans lay fewer eggs.
