What's the longest you've had a chicken disappear?

it is very possible she is broody. I had 4 of my 6 month old pullets go broody on me. Two gave up after a week or so(no idea where their nest was) one succesfully hatched chicks, but lost them to fire ants

I still have my black sex link who I found, but hasn't hatched yet. The best thing I can tell is when you see her again watch from a distance to see where she goes and she should lead you to her nest. If she comes up all puffed up and clucking then she is probably broody. Good luck

Well this story is not a chicken....

But our inside cat who was lost for 3 weeks. Nick is declawed and neutered, we had just moved out of the city and into the country as such I did not believe he even knew we lived there. Dh let him out by accident and we didn't see or hear from him in those 3 weeks. I had just finally told my children that there was a big chance that he was dead or gone and that we would never know what happened with him. My daughter decided to pray for Nick and in it she asked that he come back home, to which I told her she had to pray that Nick would go to heaven if he was dead (and trust me Nick would need extra prayers because he is a very naughty cat). She did but then told God in her prayer that she really needed Nick to come home. The very next day he did- VERY skinny but fine. I swear that cat has more than nine lives as every time I think he is on deaths door he rallies FWI he is 12-13 years old and this was 2 years ago so he was not a young cat. I like to think he saw the wild turkey herd that lives around us and followed them with big eyes

and just got lost and it took that long for him to figure out where we were. For a year he refused to step outside and now he does but he is looking over his shoulder as he sneaks outside.

I also held hope that perhaps we would find him at our old place since it is only about 40 miles away. But I am glad that we had our small miracle and he came home all on his own!

6 months.. I finally found a missing Pullet down the street after 6 month missing... She was 2 months old when she dissappeared.. She was not in good health and I did have to euthanize her.

We had a rooster go missing for a few weeks. But we live behind a public park and I'm guessing someone snatched him and when they found out that rooster aren't really "indoor" animals, they brought him back home. He didn't look any worse for wear though.

6 months? Wow!

That's cool about the cat. Abby has disappeared for a couple days at a time (she's neutered but not declawed). She's leery of our new dog and has gotten to be quite a mouser. She used to litter the path with them, but I think she's decided to actually eat them.

We used to lure her into the garage at night to feed her and she'd at least show up at night for a good meal, but she moved herself down to the barn about a month ago and has stopped demanding her dry old cat food.

I keep hoping to hear her mew. She normally comes out to talk to me when it is quiet and the new dog is locked up, but it has been a week now. A bit long. We had coyotes on the property last night, and I can't help but fear she's not much match for the predators, though the dog has taught her to be alert and careful, at least.

One of my hens went missing on Monday. She was there Monday night, in the barn, in her normal roosting spot. Tuesday we didn't see her at all, we searched the entire barn, the property they normally roam, my fiance's aunts property as she has free-ranging chickens..As of today she hasn't come home yet. No idea where she went. There were no feathers, blood, etc that we'd expect if something tried to get her. She is also the best rooster in the barn-- heads up high right over with the horses. I'm hoping she'll come home--but we checked everywhere we could think of, under all the farm equipment sitting outside.. *sigh*

Well, I hope your story turns out as well as ours since even the cockerel that had been missing a week showed up. I read to suspect foxes when there's no evidence. But now I know to suspect lost/broody/ornery chickens as well!
