We refer to that sort of task as an order of operations problem. We both have ADHD so executive function and planning and ordering steps is hard.
So something that requires finding a brush, finding the paint, mixing the paint, getting the ladder out (this is the one that would get me stuck. I hate wrestling it out and over to a spot) and then have a scraper/sander tool, paint the trim, and then put everything away. None of that is hard, but something like just getting the ladder out, my brain would put that off for months. Luckily, it's not my task
so I feel completely okay ignoring it.
I have a hallway that has spent almost two years being in various stages of being painted. Technically it's all been painted, but half the hallway got done in primer and then I went and got primer with the paint color mixed in and then the paint sat for 11 months or so. And then I painted the other half but now I still need to paint the first half to make it all match.
