I heard that there is a proper way of handling eggs that you plan on hatching out. I want to know what that is. I have a broody cochin and I want her to hatch out some eggs for me. Well, the eggs from my one EE hen. I want to get a good clutch going and have them incubated at the same time so I won't have a staggard hatch. I only have one EE so it's one egg a day, average. I want about 6-8 eggs to be incubated. So any adivse would be GREAT! Oh, how do I store them while I wait for the rest of the eggs? On the counter?

Storage for hatching eggs should be collected carefully not to shake them up and placed in a carton pointy end down in a cool spot out of the sun and heat. Place a book under one side of the carton, elevating that side and change sides when you think of it. This precents the yolk from sticking to one side of the egg. I'm thinking that you can wait until you have the amount that you need ..3 or 4 days, then set them. They will prob. be viable for a longer period though, so it's up to you to experiment..
Have fun hatching

If you keep them cool, you can easily collect the 8 eggs you want. Hens frequently lay more than that before they start setting and they do fine. Best storage temp is around 55 degrees, but is not necessary. You just don't want it too warm. Enjoy your chicks.
