About 3 weeks ago one of our little Silkie hens laid the tiniest egg.

At first, and after a little research, I just assumed I had what is know as a "cocks egg" and so I just hung on to it in spite of the legends of evil surrounding these little eggs because of how neat it was. It weighed just 12.4 grams and I was sure there would only be egg white in it.

This morning however, I found that not to be the case at all!
I was getting into my egg carton for some breakfast and dumped the tiny little egg out and cracked it on the counter.
So I decided to get to the mystery of what could be inside and was actually very surprised to see the yolk sitting there, way smaller than a penny.

I cooked it up and it it pretty much looks like a fake egg from some small kitchen set my wife said she played with as a little girl. Haha!

Just curious if anyone else has ever gotten one of these egg.

That is one tiny wee egg!

I've never had one so small but then my girls are large breeds. Even when they first started laying and the eggs were a bit small, I believe they were bigger than that.

How fun to see, thanks for the photos!

I thought it was interesting to say the least. Even as Bantams, their first eggs, albeit a little unshapely and a little smaller, their eggs have ranged from 35-42 grams fairly consistently for the 3 months they have been laying until this little guy showed up. So far I haven't gotten another one.

I once got an egg that was about the size of a jelly bean! One of my OEGBs laid it. Their eggs are small anyway, tiny eggs from tiny birds, but I'd never seen one that small. I'll look through my pictures and see if I can find it again :)
