Whats up with grit?

yes you probably did just cut the cropand cleaned it out
the use of grit is better as the granite grit is more of size that chickens can use
besure and buy the mineralized grit as then the birds get the minerals when eating the grit
it is called pigeon grit
but I am sure the florida people still feel the sand is okay
I never like sand but then I lived in Iowa

at least the hens hunt for the larger stones thru the sand
