Why?

Is there anything I can do to help the feathers grow back? It looks sore.

Is she a rose comb leghorn?

Thanks for all the help

Looks like "tread marks" from a rooster. You could:

* Arrange your pens so the hens and roo/s are apart a couple of days a week;
* Get more hens (12-15 per roo should alleviate overmating)
* Purchase or make a hen apron (search the site for info) to protect her back.

Good luck!

Are you serious about a hen apron? Never heard of that before!

Sometimes roosters have a favorite that needs extra protection. There is an add on this site for aprons. Sometimes they are called saddles.

I have two hens that have this as well... They are my two Austrolops and for some reason everyone feels the need to step on them even my other hens... You can try getting a saddle for tjhem but my girls refuse to keep them on .. I just watch and make sure they dont have any cuts or tears and treat accordingly if they do...
