This is a blue x blue cochin chick at 13 days. I know they segregate blue 50%, black 25% and splash 25%. But what the heck is this?? Looks like a mottled pattern?? Is it a really dark splash??

Do you know what the parents were out of? There could be some hidden colors and patterns back in the bloodlines. I have had some odd stuff come out of my stock when I did not know what was behind them.

I am not good with chicks and they can change so much from what they were hatched like to when they go through a few young molts and even at 6 months you can look at baby pictures and be amazed at what they started like and what they finally end up looking like.

I am sure others will join in and give more exact answers.

The chick is from MPC, and they do denote that they will segregate, but I've not seen colors like this on the forum? Maybe it is too soon, I'm just so curious!!

It looks like somewhere in the background of that chick is Silver Laced.

Agree with Chris. The white on the wing's look like some silver laced gene.Nice looking chick though:D.

definatley not a blue. Looks to be base black with a white or silver pattern (lacing/mottling/ect).
