OK, this girl, about 4 1/2 weeks is supposed to be an Australorp but this one's tail has stuck straight up and bigger then the others I got at the same time and within a week. So do you think this is an Australorp? And...I'm whispering this because I'm on a roll with hatching roo's and buying pullets that turn into them...is this a...gulp....boy?

Don't count on it being a roo just yet. I bought some chix from a feed store - one breed was called "white Austrolorp". I took one - then I looked up that breed, and can't find anywhere that they come in white! Now it's a little hen, with straight up tail like yours, and I think it's a white leghorn. Maybe yours is a black leghorn - just guessing!

Too early to tell for me.

FWIW, my mom has an Australorp with a "gamey" tail like that. She's still looking like a pullet at 10 weeks and her coloring is correct but the tail is wrong for her breed.

That's exactly what I keep thinking about her, the tail looks gamey. First time with Astralorps, but I have had Buff Orpingtons but I've never seen a tail this prominent. So much to learn about each breed.

I would say Australorp pullet...here is a pic of my roos, (its from last year so I know they are roos) and then one of my current pullet...

about the same age as yours, notice their combs and wattles, already getting red?

this is my pullet, about 12 weeks though....tail is large, dull comb....
