What's with the squatting?

When our first (and only to date) RSL started laying (at 16 weeks) I almost immediately knew who it was. There was a definite personality shift in one of our girls. She went from being a little skittish (not scared, more like catch me if you can) to calm, following me around, if I check the nests she is the first one to "help" and if I went to touch her she squatted. It's been about 2 weeks since her first egg and now whenever I am near her she squats. I don't even have to make a movement toward her, if I am near she squats. Oh and there is one more that has started to squat but only if I touch her. To my knowledge she is not laying yet, I think. I am collecting one egg a day and they are perfect and always the same color. Small but getting a little bigger each day.

What gives? Is she afraid of me?

Lol, no she's not afraid of you, she wants you to mate with her!

Gosh, I never even considered that! We don't have any roosters, so that behavior never entered my mind. Makes sense. (now I feel silly)

I've noticed that^. I was right about the second squatter... we got two eggs this morning. Very very fresh... they were still hot and hadn't even dried all the way yet!! My kids are enjoying the freshest scrambled egg lunch ever!

Dont feel bad, I didnt know what that was all about until a couple weeks ago when I joined here. My hens take it a step further and make weird noises at me when I walk near them and they sqwat. It is just odd buy all in all I am just happy I am getting eggs now :)
