What's wrong with chick?

I purchased some chicks and got a few extra. This chick was in the batch and I don't know what is wrong with it. Dose anyone have any idea! It was caked with a stinky crusty substance which I cleaned off to uncover it to be all swollen in it's bottom. The skin looks really red. I think It looks like some kind of infection, but not sure what or what to do with it. All it is doing is peeping and isn't walking well.

Sounds like it had pasty butt!! Depending on how long it was like that could be the reason it's not doing well. With it caked to them they can't poop and they will die. Hopefully since you cleaned the little bottom it will get better in no time!

I'm really sorry to hear about your chick, that must be heartbreaking! I agree that it sounds like a really nasty case of pasty butt. To be honest, if it's been going on for a while, you might not be able to save the chick

. Just keep cleaning it's poor little behind (very gently), and maybe give it a little preparation H to reduce the swelling.

I thought it could be pasty butt too. It is very hard to look at. I posted some pictures on my e page. What do you guys think. I've always kept ahead of pasty butt on my chicks, but I can't imagine what this little chick has been going through. I've never smelled something so bad! I just hope I helpped it in some way! Okay, I'm have trouble posting pictures, anyone know how to do this?
