I just go to my local feed store, and they got bags of Universal feed, in different versions. I always thought my older girls were just spoiled and liking leftovers and other treats better, but now my chicks just got switched to grow crumbles and they all of a sudden dont eat as much of it as the starter mash, which came in a red 5lb bag.

Is there something wrong with that brand of feed? Are my chicks also spoiled? For treats I give them freeze dried meralworms which they love.

different brands have different formulations, and each flock develops its own tastes/likes and dislikes. Mine like the grower of one brand, the layer of another and will only eat corn from two places but not the third that we tried. I have an idea if I ignored them long enough they would get really hungry and eat what was in front of them, but I like their silly personalities and how they communicate their wants to me so I indulge them

well it's the number of claws . . . however I did just sucessfully force the change from crumble to pellets for the layers - much less waste. The first time I tried they won, the second time I did

Ok, my bad, I accidentally gave the chicks a helping of layer.

The chicks are back on grower, and its mash and they seem to like it just fine.

Now its just my hens and the layer crumble. They eat it, but not as much as I would think, and egg production has slowed somewhat. I did just move them to a new run, maybe its just a readjustment they have to make.
