So this is my little Bells she is about 6 mths of age blk silkie. She has had this problem since being shipped here and had tape stuck to her bottom about 8 wks ago. I assumed the problem was from loss of feathers from tape being stuck to her behind. I have been breaking up the gook with my finger nails and it comes off like a brittle nails sometimes taking the feather with it. It always comes back. I brought her in today and tried a warm soak which did soften it up but it is still there. THe gook appears to be coming form the feather shafts and spreading to the area around. Almost like a calicum deposit. I shared the pics with my friend and she suggested I post here. I am not sure what is is or what I can do about it. I did spray it with oxine today after the bath hoping it would kill of any bacteria.
Please help us!

I would like to treat at home if at all possible.
She is acting, eating, pooping normal

Thanks for looking
Tisha

looks like you silkie may have clusters of lice eggs at the bottoms of the feathers, but hard to tell.

Looks like mites to me......time to get the Sevin dust out! Or can use Adams flea and tick spray.

I ran to the store to pick up cream for athletes foot. I wonder will that help? Soon as I posted fungus it hit me. Treat it like a fungus. Not sure and would still love to hears other thoughts. Unless there some sort of feather mite I do not belive it to be any type of mite it looks like a fungus.
