Hi! I'm Laurie and I'm forty something ;) When I was young my sister, who is a super fantastic crochet-er, tried to teach me. Well, I could make one heck of a chain as long as you wanted it to be but I couldn't grasp the concept of chain up- turn. So through the years I took up other hobbies like embroidery, quilting etc. About 4 years ago my DH made a comment to my sister about how she just zooms thru her crochet projects and she told him it was really quite easy. Soooo.... yeah. ... my husband made an afghan :barnie:bow I just kept quilting but always in the back of my mind was this craving and ridiculous need to crochet.... something.... anything.... just not a 20ft chain. So recently, rather than approach my sister and ask for help and listen to her blah, blah, tried to teach you, it's about time, blah, blah (jk sis I love you TONS) I decided to teach myself, with a little YouTube assistance. And so now I'm addicted!
I'd like to share photos, see photos, tell stories, listen to stories, just us gals, or guys, and have fun! So pull up a chair at my farm table, grab a drink and let's crochet!
:frow

I've got an afghan based on adamsaunt's Alabama Crimson Tide. The pattern is Churchmouse's "Vintage Crocheted Blanket" It's five feet wide and currently nearly two feet long. i plan for it to be seven feet when I'm done. This'll be my first really major project; all I've done before this is little stuffed animals.

EDT: And my sister, who knits, won't let me teach her. So I sympathise with your sister.

That sounds awesome! I'd like to see it when it's done!

This is my current project. It's just an afghan but I love how this scarfie yarn changes colors. I've got it wide enough to go across a queen size bed but it's only about a foot and a half long so far

20191227_213158.jpg was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my husband. Haha... It's wide enough for a queen bed, but only about 4.5' tall so far. I'm 16 skeins in, with about 12 more to go. I feel like it's never going to end, but at least it's long enough to keep me warm while I work on it! (using Nob Hill 100% wool 'summer sunset' lightweight (3) yarn and a G hook)

Mine's much smaller (only 80" x 61") but I have finished it!

Mum seems to appreciate it (though the day previous to my finishing it, she asked me if I was rolling yarn balls so "they can sit and gather dust like the rest of your stash.") Meh.
