What's your Dream Job?

But we on *this* planet have the fun of discovering it! Sure in some other galaxy, the veeblefetzer may have been invented, but we've not figured it out yet.

I've finally figured it out. When people talk about inventing something, or - ugh - getting a patent, they get very nervous and covetous because they feel someone might steal their idea, etc. What set me straight on this was reading Don Lancaster's writings on the patent and invention game. He says the best thing you can do is write a magazine article about what you've invented, that puts it in the public domain so no one's going to monopolize it, and you get paid for writing the article - much better than the monetary black hole that a patent is. Plus, if it's good, you'll have a window of opportunity to make and sell it, if it's really good the big boys will move in so by then you've hopefully moved on to something else. This turns conventional thinking on its head. It takes the fear and avarice out.

To be an aquarist (or zookeeper). I was a volunteer aquarist, and it was the best thing in the world. Everyone I worked with was amazing, the animals were amazing. It's hard work and you're on your feet for 8-10 hours a day, but it is so fulfilling. I would love to do exactly that every day and getting paid for it would just be the icing on the cake. I know that it is what I was made for and it will probably never happen.

To do what we've been talking about and planning for over the years, farming. And it is finally happening!

I'm a retired small animal vet tech so I have the knowledge, just the hands on on large animal husbandry is getting a bit overwhelming but I am loving every single second of it!

I have my dream part-time job right now!

I work rescuing chickens. Yes, really. I call egg farmers and try to talk to them about giving their spent laying hens to the organization I'm a part of instead of sending them to slaughter. I just pulled 395 hens from a farm yesterday. It was hard work, but very, very, very well worth it! I work on a farm animal sanctuary and I am surrounded by compassionate people and happy animals who were rescued from slaughter and now get to live out their lives in a gorgeous place. We have delicious potlucks at work all the time, are allowed to bring our dogs, and I even get to spend a little time on BYC during work hours!

When I saw the ad for the job opening I just went, "NO. WAY!"

I just know it was meant to be. I couldn't ask for a better job. I've saved more than 1200 hens in the few months I've been working here so far.

I'd like to get paid for reading and researching and just thinking about stuff..... sort of like an open ended think tank. I like teaching, I really do and would like to still teach like one class a semester... that would be cool. I need a real non-partisan think tank to hire me just to let my brain wander

I'm not exactly sure, but I definitely want to do something that involves nuclear power and math.
