What you excuse for hatching? At the moment my excuse is that with all the eggs I'm hatching I'll have plently of boxes for when start to sell hatching eggs, I think I'm up to 15 boxes

Lets fuel this addiction.

I haven't come up with a really good one I like.

I was thinking.. maybe I'll hatch, then sell off the extras as 'point of lay' come late spring (which is about the time our local feedstores have chicks). Back in April of last year dh and I really wanted a few ladies already laying, but couldn't seem to find ANY around us AT ALL. He even talked to a friend of his with a zillion chickens, but that guy said he needed them so he could sell the eggs. It was ridiculous.. and my mother said it was because of the time of year.

So.. if I hatch some extras, I could sell them.. if we manage not to get attached

Plus, nothing is making this winter go by faster than the anticipation of fluff new babies!

I look at it this way. I am new to hatching, set my first eggs 30 hours ago. The best I can hope for is a 50% hatch rate and then at least 50 to 75% will be roos. So in the long run after hours and hours and hours of worry and fussing, and tons of money spent on incubators and eggs, I will wind up with the 5 pullets I wanted in the first place, that would have only been a couple bucks from the feed store with no shipping charges and I will have tons of roos to get rid of that no one will want.... wait.... that doesnt make sense????!!! Oh well, too late now

Actually I HAVE to have a hobby. I've just always been that way. It keeps my mind occupied I guess and despite the worrying and fretting and such I still enjoy it.... when that stops, I change hobbies.
