Ok, we've all seen them, you know the planters you hang your tomato plants and peppers upside down, and for a while I was wondering how practical it would be....then a local farmer tweeked it a bit and used 5 gal buckets and this seems more practical.

Does anyone have any pros or cons on the subject? Do you find they dry out quickly? Produce more/less? etc.

Thanks!!

ive been wanting to try this as well ..

Yes to the drying out too quickly, and doesn't hold enough soild for plants larger that the patio varities. If you need to use planters, you're better off swinging by the bakery at the supermarket, asking to talk to the manager and offering $1 for the 5 gallon buckets the icing comes in.

my neighbor had one and they suck! They dry out too fast and frequent waterings help but sometimes mold would grow on the linings of the pot.

So its better for my tomatoes to grow in ground.

Agree with the drying out thing. We have three: 2 with Cherry and one with Roma. We had to add a square Zip Lock container with some small holes in it to help to slowly water. Production of tomatoes was only fair. The leaves have started to turn yellow and we suspect they will go bye bye here real soon. Fortunately, husband is self-unemployed and able to water 2-3 per day. Not worth the money to buy any more - was glad that we found them for $10.00 at Home Depot. As always be careful with what you read and see on TV.

I haven't tried the planter. But this spring I ordered their actual tomato plants. The Big Earlies and the Tomato Tree. You are supposed to get three of each. But they sent me about ten of each. They grew 3 inches and died. Every last one. I wasted $20.00 plus shipping and handling.

Garbage! And they try to sell you about thirty other things too.

Thanks for the review, everyone! I was considering getting something like this, but didn't want to spend the $10, so I planted my tomatos in the ground like normal and they're doing great! If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I guess!

I grow mine in 5 gallon pots and they do very well. I put out a few Topsy Turvy's. They don't dry out that quickly, but they are growing very very slowly. I'm glad I only did a few of them.

I have one volunteer and I have no idea what it is but it's doing very well in a corner of my garden
