Over the years I have had some funny, cute, mean, and sweet personality in my flock.
I'm just curious what's everybody's else's flocks personality like? Or what have you observed from them? Any experiences? Does your flock treat each other like family? Or do they pick on each other?

(Open discussion) :P

Each chicken is an individual. I've got regal roosters, goofy uncles, the shy low-class boys, intelligent hens, mean egg-eaters, wise mothers, angry Sebrights (attacked me any chance he could get), curious baby chicks, and many others.

It is so much fun to learn the individual personalities!

My first 4 from last year got along great, though the head hen is evident she didn't seem to terrorize the others to get there. This years chicks (4 mos old) get along great of course because nobody has reached maturity. When I tried to join them, the head hen showed her vicious side repeatedly trying to kill the new cockerel. My Buff Orps are pretty sweet and tolerant of the littles, just a peck here an there if they get too bold at the food dish, till they are on the roost, then they become bullies too, even if the pullets and cockerel stay well away from them in the unused portion of the roost....sigh. I just want my peaceful amicable henhouse back.

My chickens bully each other at night as well. Its like they want their own personal space or something when resting. They don't seem to like to snuggle, especially when it is hot out. They peck at lower class chickens to get them to move away.

Best of luck to you!

I have 12 isa browns and every one of them have their own personality. I have 1 that I had to separate from the rest at 3 weeks old cause they others were pecking at her. I rejoined her with the rest when they went to the coop. She was kind of a loner and wouldn't push her way in to get a treat. I would encourage her and put her right amongst them and she quickly learned she had to move fast and get right in there. We'll over a month later she is the temperamental one that will bully another one if they get between her and her piece of a treat. It's funny how their dynamics change. Lately I have found that all their personalities are changing even more at 14 weeks as they are turning red in the face, combs and wattles. They really are sweethearts though. Wish I would of got chickens a long time ago now.

Mine are the same way. Some nights when they go to bed they are somewhat quiet and other nights it sounds like a full out war. Lol

Yes, all of my chickens have their own personalities too, it's quite neat. My chickens I don't think have ever heard of the pecking order. They treat each other like family. Every one in my flock is so fascinating to watch! I've learned over the years which ones lay which eggs, and which ones make certain sounds. Once you get to really know your flock you learn things which are really cool!

Some of my favorite times watching my chickens, is when I put them up after they are done roaming for the day. What I do is I get two peices of bread and throw it out, and just keep walking towards the coop while throwing tiny peices of bread. I basically have to trained now, where every single time they here my foot steps up on my back deck they come running towards it and stay their waiting for me! All the time! It's hilarious! It's like they are dogs. :lau

Here's some pics. of some of them waiting for me.

My chickens escape from their run and come to the porch, waiting for me to lead them back with treats. I guess they have me trained.
