My girls have liked everything so far but they go crazy over boss...black oil sunflower seeds

Does anyone grow their own Sunflowers to feed their chickens after enjoying their beauty?

My neighbor has some in front of her house && I love seeing them, I thought about asking her when she cuts them down if I could have the flowers? And possibly next year growing our own w/ the kids and then possibly food for the chickens.
