I love my Polish, but they are a little more high maintenance than other breeds. You can pluck (or cut, if you're not going to show them) their feathers around their eyes to help them see, but they are walking bullseyes for hawks or other chickens with their big crests! Especially color varieties like the white crested blacks...those crests really stand out. I do not keep my Polish with any of my other chickens (well, they are breeders so they would be separate anyway), and I do not free-range them. I do move their pens around on the grass in nice weather, so they do get out--I'm a big proponent of free-range or pastured poultry, so I would hate to keep them in the barn all of the time!
