what's your Roosters name

Opie is a great name for a roo!! Cute.

I love my Polish, but they are a little more high maintenance than other breeds. You can pluck (or cut, if you're not going to show them) their feathers around their eyes to help them see, but they are walking bullseyes for hawks or other chickens with their big crests! Especially color varieties like the white crested blacks...those crests really stand out. I do not keep my Polish with any of my other chickens (well, they are breeders so they would be separate anyway), and I do not free-range them. I do move their pens around on the grass in nice weather, so they do get out--I'm a big proponent of free-range or pastured poultry, so I would hate to keep them in the barn all of the time!

Right now I have a mixed breed roo named Buddy and Araucana roo named Fred. I have two buff orp cockerels yet too be named. I held out hope they were pullets but it just isn't so. I have to think of something for them

I don't even get my chicks till the first part of March but already have names picked out for my roos's. In keeping w/the election year theme:

Buff Orpington - Huck (Mike Huckabee)
Turken - Tom (Fred Thompson)
Golden Polish - Mitt Romney
Buff Silkie - Rudy Giuliani
Jersey Giant - Barack Obama
d'anver - Clinton

Checker: cause he is checkered, he's a barred cochin banty.

Dazzle: he is dazzlingly beautiful, his mother was a frizzle cochin named Frizzle and we named most of her babies' names with names ending in zzle.

Jack Frost: a white leghorn, and hatched in December, so logical!

Lil Dude: cause he acts like one

Fuego: Spanish for fire; that's exactly what he looks like; flames, embers, and ashes.

BB: We at first thought he was a hen, and named him after our hen he looked just like, BokBok, except he was much smaller.

Diego: went well with his brother's name, Diablo.

Pebbles: his colors looked like a bunch of pebbles together when he was younger; we used to think he was a hen, too.

Potpie: I stole this name off the site cause I loved it; and yes, we were told he was a pullet when we got him!
