HI folks,
I am new to the forum. I have four large hens (various breeds) and three bantams (daughter does 4H showmanship). We also hatch eggs for my developmental bio course and get eggs from a hobbiest who has ameraucanas, wheaten marans and a few other breeds.
We kept three chicks that I could not sexing using standard wing parameters. We can use help sexing two of these 5 week old "chicks".
#1. We believe is pure Wheaton Maran (based on egg), but there are wellsummers in his mix. Initially it was light and acted like a pullet, but transformed and grew a large comb and waddles, large legs and dark coloration. Concerned it might actually be a roo.Thoughts?
#1-Birch
#2-Oak
Based on egg color (green), similarity otherwise to #1 and puffy cheeks, is believed to be a mix between Ameraucana and Wheaton. We initially thought this was was a roo based on its precocious behavior, but coloration is quite light and comb still small.
We appreciate any help!
Thanks!
