My hen that is 2 years old was fine yesterday and this morning she is hardly moving and when I picked her up she was wheezing.I put her in a cage and gave her some eggs and yogurt but she will not eat or drink. She is just laying there.Do you have any idea what could be wrong? It happened so fast.

It's kind of hard to tell with just those symptoms: wheezing. fatigue and inappetance.

You need to do a more thorough check on her. Do a full body check. How are her feathers? Her weight- does she feel lighter or heavier than normal? Do you feel any abnormalities under her feathers (like lumps)? Is her vent clean and clear? Does she normally lay eggs well- has that decreased recently? How do her comb and wattles look?

For exposure: Have you brought in any new chickens in the past few weeks? Have you been to anyone elses farm or backyard farm in the past few weeks?

Wheezing usually means something respiratory. And the likelihood of something suddenly hitting her in hours is usually pretty low- that's why you might want to look all over. ANY other chickens behaving off, eating less, acting low etc?

She was dead this morning when I went out.She was not egg bound and her weight was fineHer comb and wattles were red,she was fine the day before and none of the others showing any signs of anything.Guess I will never know for sure and I do know things like this happen once in awhile. She may have eaten something. But thanks for the input

Thanks,I hate when this happens,I had a favorite EE and he was perfectly healthy, one morning I went out and he had died in the night ,fell of the roost into the poop board.I asume it was a heart attackHis eyes were still closed. That one was hard,he helped me do my chores every morning, talked to me and followed me around untill I was done.

We do get attached to these guys don't we? My EEs are so funny. These little personalities they are.
