I have a 9 mos old mottled Java hen that has been wheezing for a while. She she runs around the yard or pecks at scratch, we can hear her wheeze. It is faint, but nonetheless there. She is not sick...no symptoms. In fact, this has been going on for more than a month...probably closer to 2 or 3. We live in a desert. Could it be that she got and up her nose at one point? I've tried to look, but she doesn't like to be held...it interferes with her scratching and dirt baths.
It is NOT an illness. Absolutely no other symptoms. She lays regularly and is very active. I just can't figure out if it is allergies, something up her nose or something completely different. I am sure that it is not life threatening since she acts fine, but I feel bad for not being able to help get rid of it. It is not getting worse and I don't hear it when she is roosting at night. I think it is more when she runs around the yard and is breathing harder (hard enough to whistle). Oh....it is a whistle wheeze (like kids with dried snot up their nose)...not a chest congestion wheeze.
