My girl is 5 months old today and has not layed yet although the rest of her EE sisters are laying here and there. I was out at the coop at noon and she was fine and energetic, then at 4pm this afternoon I went back out to the coop and she is making a really strange noise, sounds like a cross between a moan/snoring and moaning. I had put some new nest boxes in the coop at noon in addition to the ones that were already there, someone layed in them already and she is hanging out by them and wouldn't come out for scratch!

I treated the flock with Ivermectin pour on 4 days ago (10 days before that with wazine) as part of my worming routine. I also put Sevin dust in the coop at that time.
I switched from medicated starter feed to game bird grower and oyster shell 4 weeks ago.
There is no discharge or swelling on her eyes or nostrils and she is not hanging her mouth open.
I do free range on most days when I can be out there with them, I do provide crushed granite for grit.
I checked her over very carefully moving feathers to see if she was injured anywhere and she is not.
SHe is just standing and will not move with her tail hanging and making that weird noise.

Is it possible fo a hen to not show ANY sign of illness and then 4 hours later be all out sick? My gut is telling me it is egg related somehow, but could be waaaaaaaaaaay off here.

I would really appreciate the help here. I don't know wether to isolate her and start antibiotics immediately or just what to do....

My girl was still making this noise a little bit ago when I locked up the coop, if she is doing this in the morning, I am running to get injectable antibiotic. I can get Tylon 50 or Tylan 200. I need to know what gauge of needle to to do IM on a chicken and also how many injections over how many days? I am scared this may be respitory, but it just came on within a matter of 4 hours!

birds are excellent actors, it's normally only when they're really sick that they'll show something is wrong. So she could have had a for a few days and it's just now gotten too hard for her to hide

Absoloutly no sound out of the girl this morning, I am not sure what to think about this. No eggs either, I think this gal warants a very close eye, which I do anyway, she is one of my EE girls who I hatched and they are all being handled daily, like they would let it be otherwise lol!

I think I am still going to head to town and put some things together for a med kit as this was kind of a wake up call to get meds together and supplies for an emergency.

Excellent point! I know my kitties are like that as well and I did think about that could maybe be what happend. She is showing NO sign or sounds this morning tho??

She could be feeling JUST better enough to hide it again. You know how sometime you'll feel better in the morning when your sick but get exhausted quickly during the day?
Good luck with her

OK, if you guys who were discussing EE that was making the moaning, snoring sound, let me know what happened. My EE is making that sound today. I just got my hens two weeks ago, so I don't know their noises at all.
