The only hen that I had that wheezed went downhill very quickly despite giving her Baytril that a vet prescribed. Her comb developed a blue-ish tint and she had a heart attack. She was still young, not yet 2 years old.
You could send your hen's body off to have a necropsy done. Your county extension agent will be able to help you with that.
