I have had my Pekin babies about a week and a half. They are about 6wks and all came to me with HORRIBLE legs/feet so I’ve been treating them with B Complex, swimming, and yard walks in hopes of improving their condition. Three couldn’t walk without tripping over their own feet, so they’d rarely walk when I got them. Now, they all walk some and several have drastically improved!

I did have one of my younger Pekins (3wks old) pass yesterday, for no apparent reason.

I’ve never had Pekin ducks before, only Magpies and I’ve never had any that sound like this.

Is this a normal sound? I know their size and rapid growth presents different challenges Pekins, but didn’t know if I should be concerned. No visible signs of illness, just the wheezing sound. TIA! ❤️

*I have a video, but it’s MOV file and it won’t upload*

Sorry to hear you're having problems with them.

A video would be very helpful. To post a video you'll need to upload it to a video platform like youtube or Vimeo first, then copy/paste the link here.

What kind of bedding are you using? What's the temperature in their brooder? Are you providing a deep water source, so they can clean their nares out? What are you feeding them?

Thank you! I’ve got a link for the video below.

I’m using large pine shavings that I change out daily. I put in new shavings during the day to keep them from walking and resting on wet shavings. They have a bowl that’s deep enough for them to put their bills under just up past their eyes. They’re eating Purina Duck feed pellets.
