My chickens haven't molten before, so, I don't know what to expect. What should I do when one of my chickens DO molt?

Make sure your birds' diet includes enough protein -- if you feed layer swap out to a higher-protein all-flock type. With oystershell on the side.

Watch their health because they're stressed but respect the fact that they might be grumpy and out-of-sorts because growing new feathers itches.

If you generally handle them a lot be extra gentle and respect it if they don't want to be touched. The new pinfeathers are sensitive.

If they are good with being touched you can GENTLY help preen the sheathes off the feathers on the tops of their heads and the back of their necks -- but be ready to go hands off immediately if they don't like it. :)
