One of my Girls who I think got her leg caught on fencing (TOP part of right leg) has now a scab (dark Black scab) on the wound area.
I went out to the coop and found blood all over which was not there yesterday. I cannot see an actually "cut" per say on her leg just that black nasty spot. I am thinking now it is NOT bumble foot because it Just happened today and I believe the bumblefoot takes at least some time to get "infected".

In anyones experience does any "wound" on a chicken get a dark scab over it when starting to heal of from dry blood?

Thanks

Blood can turn dark when dried and look nasty if it's a jagged tear, but you said the leg was very red and swollen, which would seem to indicate infection. I hope it's just a simple cut, though. In any case, the wound should be washed with Betadine if you have it, or a sterile saline solution, Bactine, whatever you have on hand like that and then gauze with antibiotic ointment or cream and a bandage to keep dirt out. I hope it's just a cut and wont turn septic. Good luck! Let us know how she does.

Thanks so much everyone for all your help!!!!

will try to sleep tonight, she seems to be doing fine in the garage. Warm safe and confined to a cage. I've been able to feed her some food and give her water. She won't walk to it but if I give it to her she welcomes it so I guess that's a good sign.
